Many of us have heard about the phenomenal and awe-inspiring TED Talks that have been presented at conferences. But what exactly is TED, and what is TED’s overarching mission?

TED is a nonprofit organization that began in 1984, with the commitment of spreading ideas -hence their slogan, “Ideas worth spreading.” These talks, are typically presented through minimal yet impacting talks ranging in nearly every subject on the spectrum of knowledge. TED launched into inception when Richard Saul Wurman observed the powerful convergence of technology, entertainment and design. However in 2011, media entrepreneur Chris Anderson’s nonprofit organization Sapling Foundation acquired TED.

TED is an inclusive global community, by embracing individuals from every subject and culture. TED believes in the influential effects of ideas changing attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. “Our agenda is to make great ideas accessible and spark conversation. Everything we do – from our TED Talks videos to the projects sparked by the TED Prize, from the global TEDx community to the TED-Ed lesson series – is driven by this goal: How can we best spread great ideas?” TED.com provides an advantageous platform for users to tap into for in-depth knowledge from globally acclaimed and inspiring thinkers.
